The good old days

Everyday objects from the not so distant past...

Life seemed so hard before the gas stove was introduced. When that happened the stove had the right height so that that the housewife’s back would not give her any problems when cooking. It was also now difficult for her to imagine how she managed without the Ballerup Master Mixer, the fridge with the car door grip and the DIY shop, without TV and Tupperware, Gepo scales and EVA kitchen utensils, without the magazines Bo Bedre and Mad og Gæster. And – life was probably duller before we got the more optimistic bright colours…

Useful, faithful – sometimes hopeless – gadgets tell the story of us, their users, for better or for worse. The exhibition shows a number of typical everyday objects, which for a time at least became a part of our lives. Objects which served us in our daily lives and at the same time tell a lot about our conception of ourselves and the world around us.

Seeing again the old items of the exhibition is a tangible memory of a not too distant past: the good old days…
